Vietnam to play Malaysia on October 13 as AFC restarts World Cup qualifiers

NDO – Vietnam will play guests to Malaysia on October 13 as the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) plans to resume the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign next month.

After meetings with member associations regarding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on football activities, the AFC has issued the schedule for its tournaments at the national team and club levels from now until the end of 2020, depending on the development of the disease and on the basis of proposals from the AFC Competitions Committee.

Accordingly, the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 Qatar World Cup will restart on October 8, with Vietnam to travel to Malaysia for their sixth Group G match against the hosts on October 13.

Park Hang-seo’s side will then return home to host Indonesia on November 12 before leaving for their last round-two match against the United Arab Emirates five days later.

The Golden Stars are currently leading Group G with 11 points after five matches, followed by Malaysia (nine points, five games), Thailand (eight points, five games), the UAE (six points, four games) and Indonesia (zero points, five games).

Concerning the playground for youth teams, the 2020 AFC U19 Championship will take place in Uzbekistan from October 14 to 31, with U19 Vietnam joining Saudi Arabia, Australia and Laos in Group C.

The Vietnam futsal team will compete against Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Oman in Group A at the 2020 AFC Futsal Championship, slated for November 4-15. Kuwait is being nominated to replace Turkmenistan as the host of the tournament.

The 2020 AFC Futsal Club Championship is scheduled to take place in the UAE between December 2-13. The winning team in the 2020 National Futsal Championship will represent Vietnam to compete in the continental tournament.
