Vietnam records over 20,000 cases of COVID-19

Vietnam reported 328 more local COVID-19 infections in the 12 hours prior to 6am on July 5, raising the national tally to 20,261, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced.

Ho Chi Minh City, which is the country’s current largest pandemic hotspot, recorded most of the infections with 175 cases, followed by the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap with 100 cases.

Twenty-three of the remainder were detected in Phu Yen, nine in Hung Yen, eight in Khanh Hoa, six in An Giang, two each in Long An and Bac Ninh, and one each in Lang Son, Dong Nai, and Soc Trang.

Of the new infections, 272 were found in quarantine and sealed-off areas.

There were 16,833 cases detected since April 27 when the fourth outbreak hit the nation.

Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung affirmed that vaccination is the crucial solution to fight the pandemic, but people also need to raise their awareness of protecting themselves, their families and society while there are not enough vaccines.

Dung made the remarks on July 4 while leading a delegation to inspect epidemic prevention and control at Aeon Mall Long Bien, Aeon Mall Ha Dong, and Highlands Coffee at Opera House in Hoan Kiem District.

In particular, he requested restaurants must strictly follow the regulation of closing at 9pm.

*Entirety of Di An City applies social distancing from 0:00 on July 5

Di An City in Binh Duong Province has been put under social distancing from 0:00 on July 5 amid increasing number of COVID-19 cases in recent days.

In addition, people from Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai who wish to enter and leave Di An must have a certificate showing negative with SARS-CoV-2.

* Binh Thuan strictly manages people coming from pandemic-hit areas

Binh Thuan Province requires that all people from pandemic-hit localities must have negative test results for SARS-CoV-2 within 72 hours if they wish to enter the province from July 5.

In case they have no test certificate, they must take a quick test and pay for the test according to the instructions of the pandemic control checkpoints.

*An Giang exercises social distancing in Khanh Binh Commune

On July 4, the chairman of An Phu District People’s Committee in An Giang Province issued a decision on the establishment of medical quarantine areas to prevent and control the pandemic in Khanh Binh Commune.

Accordingly, the entirety of Khanh Binh Commune will implement social distancing according to Government Directive 15 and 16 from July 4 to July 14 and the order can be extended if new cases of COVID-19 arise.
