Vietnam recorded 15,779 cases of COVID-19, including 28 imported ones, during 24 hours from 4pm January 8 to 4pm January 9, according to the Ministry of Health. |
Hanoi recorded the highest number of infections with 2,811, followed by Hai Phong with 836 and Binh Phuoc with 679. Also on the day, the southern province of Binh Phuoc added 7,402 cases to the national COVID-19 case log after confirming relevant information. The national tally reached 1,899,575, including 30 infections of Omicron. A total 12,210 patients were given the all-clear on the same day, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,500,248. According to the Ministry of Health’s report, 5,970 patients nationwide are in serious conditions, with 696 requiring invasive ventilation and 20 on life support (ECMO). On the day, the country saw 202 deaths from the disease. The death toll now hits 34,319, equal to 1.8 percent of the total caseload. By January 8, the country had injected over 160 million doses of vaccines, with more than 70.90 million people now fully inoculated, while over 10.88 million third shots, either booster shots or the third shot of Abdala vaccine, had been administered.
