NDO – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam and MBI Motors Vietnam held a ceremony on September 5 to announce the Green E-transportation Initiative at Ecopark, Hung Yen province. |
The Green E-transportation Initiative is a public-private initiative launched by UNDP in partnership with enterprises and organisations concerned for the environment. The initiative is also expected to raise awareness about the importance of green transport in addressing the problems of climate change and air quality in Vietnam. It also aims to promote green transportation to reduce air pollution and the health risks created by air pollution. Under the Initiative, an electric bike sharing programme will be piloted at Ecopark in the next two months with a supply of about 500 electric bicycles, 50 charging stations and an operating centre. After the pilot period, UNDP will analyse all related data and build a report on the impact assessment of greenhouse gas reduction as well as air quality improvement. MBI Vietnam and UNDP are scheduled to expand the e-bike sharing programme into Hue later this year. The e-bike sharing programme is also expected to be duplicated in other cities in the future. UNDP Resident Representative Vietnam, Caitlin Wiesen, emphasised that green transport is creating new business opportunities and new business models which not only help businesses to develop sustainably but also contribute to mitigating the impacts of climate change and air pollution. “Every individual can make a practical contribution to the transition towards a greener and cleaner future by choosing electric vehicles,” she added.
