The Top Thai Brands 2020 expo opened at the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre in Ho Chi Minh City on September 17.
The exhibition affords Vietnamese and Thai businesses a chance to expand their markets as well as seek partners and business opportunities towards achieving more balanced trade activities.
The four-day expo is displaying and selling a range of quality products from Thailand, including food and beverages, household products, textiles and garments, health and beauty products, among others. Exhibitors are also seeking partners for trade and network expansion.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Nguyen Quang Huy, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Agency for Southern Affairs, said Vietnam and Thailand have long established a traditional friendship, particularly in investment and trade.
Their bilateral cooperation has grown fruitfully in almost every field over recent years, he noted, adding that Vietnam considers Thailand a strategic partner in realising its sustainable development goals.
The two countries’ investment and trade promotion agencies will continue to bolster programmes facilitating transactions between various business communities, he said.
According to the Director of the Thai Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP)’s Ho Chi Minh City Office Suparporn Sookmark, Vietnam – Thailand’s trade has maintained growth despite COVID-19.
In the first half of this year, Thailand channelled US$ 1.58 billion worth of FDI into Vietnam, making it the second-largest foreign investor in the country. The two nations have set the goal of raising bilateral trade turnover to US$ 20 billion this year.
She said Thailand wishes to be a trustworthy economic partner of Vietnam and is committed to boosting bilateral trade.
A similar event took place in Hanoi in July.
Thailand is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, with bilateral trade exceeding US$17 billion in 2019.
