TikTok said it removed some 2.43 million videos uploaded by Vietnamese users in the first quarter of this year for violating its community guidelines.
Of them 88.7 percent were removed before anyone viewed them and 94 percent were deleted within 24 hours of being uploaded.
They were removed for violating guidelines related to nudity, sexual acts involving minors or inciting violence but also for frightening content, harassment, bullying, suicides, and others.
According to TikTok, Vietnam had the 9th highest number of videos removed.
The U.S. topped the list with over 14 million followed by Pakistan and the Philippines with 12.49 million and 7.9 million respectively.
TikTok emerged as a video-sharing social network aimed at young users and has drawn away visitors from other platforms.
The issue of safe content is not only a concern for TikTok developers, but also for many other Internet information-sharing platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. And, despite their best efforts, prohibited content still manages to reach users.
TikTok was the third most used app by Vietnamese children in the first quarter of this year, according to digital security company Kaspersky.
