ST25 has once again won the title of best rice in Vietnam at the second Vietnam Delicious Rice Contest 2020,held by the Vietnam Food Association collaborated with the Department of Crop Production, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on November 3. |
With the result, ST25 rice variety will represent Vietnamese rice to participate in the World Delicious Rice Contest held in the US in mid-November. The contest, which aims to honour Vietnamese rice products and contribute to the promotion of Vietnamese rice brands in domestic and international markets, brings together 14 rice products in two types of fragrant rice and sticky rice from many leading rice producers and enterprises in Vietnam such as Ho Quang Tri Enterprise, Long Hiep Agricultural Cooperative, LocTroi Group Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Rice Company Limited, Vietnam National Seed Group Joint Stock Company; and the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute. Tran Ngoc Trung, deputy chairman of the Vietnam Food Association, said that the products chosen for the contest must be varieties that were bred in Vietnam, and have been circulated or sent for national testing at least once. In addition, contest products must have at least 98% pure, with no yellow seeds, spoiled seeds, young green or red stripes. The jury will score three parts including rice sample before cooking, after cooking and a description of the rice characteristics. This year, the Vietnam Chefs Association sent four chefs to participate in the grading contest. Results in the category of fragrant rice, ST25 rice of the Ho Quang Tri enterprise selected by the jury to award the first prize. Thien Vuong rice of Loc Troi Group Joint Stock Company won second prize. Meanwhile, OM 8 variety of the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute and Dai Fragrant 8 of the Vietnam Rice Company Limited won third prize. In the sticky rice category, OM406 variety of the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute won first prize, Huong Tien variety of Loc Troi Group Joint Stock Company won second prize, andOM441 variety of the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute won third prize.
