The southern province of Kien Giang has approved a project to build the Hon Dat – Kien Luong coastal road with a total investment of VND1.48 trillion(US$64.2 million). |
According to the Kien Giang Department of Transport, the road will have a total length of 39.4km and will run from Hon Me mountain in Tho Son district, Hon Datprovince to Binh An intersection in Binh An commune, Kien Luong district. The two-lane road will include 24 reinforced concrete bridges which will be built over four years from 2021 to 2024. The coastal road along with the sea dyke system and coastal defense road system is expected to facilitate the improved handling of disaster response situations, climate change and sea level rises and the strengthening ofnational defense and security in the region. The road is also aimed at promoting tourism potential in coastal areas, particularly the Ba Hon cultural – historical site in Hon Dat district and Hon Phu Tu tourism site in Kien Luong district. Over the next five years the province will mobiliseresources and diversify investment forms to build key transport projects in the province to connect with the transport system in the Mekong Delta region. A number of roads in the province will be upgraded or built including Ha Tien-Rach Gia-Bac Lieu highway, national highways 61, 63, 80, N1 and coastal roads along the beaches of An Bien-An Minh, Kenh Cut-Tac Cau, and Rach Gia-Hon Dat, among others.
