Liverpool’s Klopp wins LMA Manager of the Year award

* The Australian Open, the country’s oldest and most prestigious golf event, has been postponed from its scheduled staging in November due to COVID-19, organisers said on Tuesday. Golf Australia had planned to stage the 105th edition at Melbourne’s Kingston Heath Golf Club later this year but were now looking at other dates in early 2021, the governing body said.

* Wonderfully taken goals from Josh Onomah and Neeskens Kebano gave Fulham a 2-0 win at Cardiff City in the first leg of their Championship playoff semi-final on Monday. The London side, relegated from the Premier League last season, will look to complete the job in the return leg at Craven Cottage on Thursday to earn a place in the final at Wembley.

* Brighton & Hove Albion have signed midfielder Adam Lallana on a free transfer from champions Liverpool, the Premier League club announced on Monday. Lallana has agreed a three-year contract with the Seagulls and his signing is something of a coup for the south-coast club who finished 15th in the standings this season.

* Kevin De Bruyne is hoping to crown David Silva’s glorious 10 years at Manchester City by completing the Spaniard’s set of medals with a Champions League win next month. Silva has won four Premier League titles among 11 major trophies since joining City in 2010, as well as the World Cup and two European Championships at international level with Spain.

* Paris St Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has been ruled out for three weeks after he suffered an ankle injury in Friday’s French Cup final win over St Etienne, the Ligue 1 champions said on Monday (Jul 27). It means Mbappe will miss PSG’s Champions League quarter-final against Italian side Atalanta in Lisbon on Aug. 12.

* Argentina forward Paulo Dybala faces a race to be fit for Juventus’s Champions League last 16 return-leg game against Lyon on August 7 after the Italian champions’ confirmed Monday (Jul 27) he had suffered a thigh injury.

* A decision on whether this year’s London Marathon can be held has been pushed back until August 7, the organisers said on Monday. The event, originally scheduled for April 26, was postponed to October 4 after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the international sporting calendar in March.

* Malaysia has been named the Asian Champions League’s centralised hub in East Asia with matches in the region due to restart in October, the continent’s soccer governing body said on Monday. Asia’s elite club competition was suspended in early March because of the COVID-19 pandemic and will resume in West Asia hub Qatar on Sept. 14.

* Zenit St Petersburg have signed centre back Dejan Lovren from Liverpool on a three-year contract, the Russian champions announced on Monday (Jul 27). Lovren, who joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2014, leaves Anfield after making 185 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals.

* Jan Vertonghen announced his departure from Tottenham after eight years at the Premier League club on Monday (Jul 27). The Belgium defender, whose contract was extended in June until the end of the current season, made more than 300 appearances for Spurs after joining the club from Ajax in 2012.

* Bundesliga club Hoffenheim have named Sebastian Hoeness, nephew of former Bayern Munich president Uli, as their new head coach after he led Bayern’s reserves to the third division title. The 38-year-old, who coached the Bayern Under-23s to the title straight after winning promotion, has signed a contract through to 2023, Hoffenheim said in a statement on Monday.

* Valencia have appointed former Watford boss Javi Gracia as their new manager on a two-year contract, the La Liga club announced on Monday. Gracia replaces Albert Celades, who was sacked in June following successive defeats by Eibar and Villarreal.
