A total of 981,773 students took part in the first phase of the 2021 national high school graduation exam, representing 96.13% of the registered candidates, as announced by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) during a press briefing held shortly after the exam’s last test on July 8.
According to the ministry, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to see complicated developments, the plan to organise the exam was implemented under the motto of taking proactive measures to respond to the impacts of the pandemic while ensuring safety for both candidates and those involved in the exam organisation.
In the first phase, as many as 23,569 candidates were unable to take the exam due to COVID-19, equivalent to 2.31% of the total, the MOET said, adding that these students will sit the exam in its second phase.
Thanks to the careful preparations of the MOET and localities, especially with the active coordination and support of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Security, the exam took place safely. Violations of exam regulations were detected and handled in a timely fashion, thus ensuring the strictness of the exam.
All localities applied solutions to provide optimal support for candidates on exam days, with some (Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province) having carried out COVID-19 testing for all first-phase participants. The exam met the requirements regarding the simple and practical organisation work, and basically achieved the dual goal of ensuring pandemic prevention and control, and taking place in a serious, objective and fair manner.
Particularly in Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s current COVID-19 hotbed, the pandemic prevention and control was tightened at 155 exam sites, with the full application of safety measures. On the first day of the exam, some local candidates were detected to be suspected of being contracted with COVID-19. However, all these cases were promptly and properly treated in line with the anticipated scenarios.
The MOET also said that it has sent an official dispatch to localities on guiding the preparation of conditions for the organisation of the second phase of the graduation exam.
