The Ministry of Health has recommended localities to continue implementing measures against the COVID-19 epidemic, with a focus on tracing those who were in contact with people who tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
On December 6, only one imported case of COVID-19 was reported, raising the national count to 1,366, according to the National Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
The new patient is a Libyan citizen who came from Qatar and was found to be infected while staying in quarantine in Hanoi.
A total of 1,220 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered, while the fatalities count remains at 35.
Among those still under treatment, five have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, four twice and two thrice.
There are 17,020 people who have had close contact with COVID-19 patients or arrived from pandemic-hit areas being quarantined across the country.
In Ho Chi Minh City, where four latest local transmissions have been detected since late November, local authorities announced that the southern economic hub has recorded no new infections in the community for the past four days.
By the morning of December 6, the Centre for Disease Control in Ho Chi Minh City took 3,263 test samples from those related to the four positive cases (Patients 1342, 1347, 1348 and 1349), of which all 861 close contacts (F1) gave negative results, while 1,400 close contacts of F1s also showed negative results.
Against the complex development of COVID-19, the Ministry of Health urged for continuous response to the pandemic, with strictly complying with the screening, diversification, isolation and testing of all suspected cases.
It is important to strengthen the inspection and supervision of the implementation of regulations on entry and medical isolation, especially at border gates and medical isolation camps, to not let COVID-19 from spreading in the quarantine areas or in the community.
Communications should continue to be strengthened to help the community fully implement recommendations on epidemic prevention in the new normal state, the ministry stated.
