The Government has allowed foreign traders to enter Vietnam to buy lychees in the northern province of Bac Giang, according to a recent document of the Government Office dated May 14. |
In the document, the Government asked the working groups of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of Transport to process Bac Giang provincial authorities’ submission of granting visa and flight permits (if any) to foreign merchants in compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures. Earlier, on May 5, the Bac Giang Provincial People’s Committee sent a submission asking for approval from the Prime Minister to allow around 190 Chinese merchant to enter Vietnam via Huu Nghi Border Gate (Lang Son Province) and Lao Cai Border Gate (Lao Cai Province) to purchase lychees. The provincial People’s Committee pledged to strictly implement quarantine measures, pandemic preparedness, and human resource management to ensure security and order in accordance with regulations of the law. In 2021, Bac Giang Province has 28,100 hectares for lychee cultivation and is expected to harvest around 1880,000 tonnes of lychees this season.
