NDO – A contest organised in the form of television game show to honour grassroots disaster prevention and control forces was launched in the central city of Da Nang on July 15. |
The event, the first of its kind in Vietnam is being co-organised by the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and VTV8, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). As many as 21 teams from 21 provinces and cities across the country will compete in the three rounds of the contest. The final round is scheduled to take place from July 16-19 at the Vietnam Television Centre in the Central and Central Highlands region (VTV8). The competition aims to raise public awareness on disaster prevention and control and climate change adaptation as well as create an interesting and attractive playground for grassroots disaster prevention and control forces amid the TV audience. According to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, as of June, 2019, 41 out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide had established 8,000 disaster prevention and control teams at the communal and ward level.
