“Face mask ATM” launched in Hanoi

The donation is part of a programme launched by the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), Vietnam Digital Television (VTC) and the Vietnam Ancestral Global Day Project, aimed at providing over 170,000 medical masks free of charge in Hanoi, Da Nang and Quang Nam to join all hands in the community in COVID-19 prevention and control.

Lasting from August 25 to September 30, the programme is being held in smart ATM form, set up at a building at No. 23 Lac Trung Street and serving the free provision of masks for Hanoi residents.

The device was made by Vietnamese technicians with technology similar to the well-known “rice ATM” that once resonated in the community in the early stages of the COVID-19 fight in Vietnam.

People need only line up and ensure the prescribed distance from each other while waiting to their turn to “withdraw” masks by standing in front of the intelligent identification camera attached to the ATM.

In Da Nang and Quang Nam, organisers will coordinate other sponsors to present 125,000 face masks to local hospitals, medical staff, patients and their relatives.

Tens of thousands of medical masks will also be sent to reporters who are contributing to the formation of a front to repel the epidemic.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky, General Director of VOV, said that the unanimity and support of relevant agencies, organisations and enterprises is necessary to join hands with the public in containing the epidemic. From now until the end of 2020, VOV would continue to coordinate with agencies and unions to organise more meaningful programmes, Ky added.
