Barcelona overcome Juve as Morata has three goals disallowed

Messi capped a fluid display from Ronald Koeman’s side by firing home the 14th penalty of his Champions League career to seal Barca’s first-ever win over Juventus in Turin and leave them top of Group G with six points from two games.

Rashford is only the second United player to score a hat-trick as a substitute after his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did so against Nottingham Forest in 1999.

* Joaquin Correa scored early for a depleted Lazio but his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Club Brugge in an entertaining Champions League Group F clash at the Jan Breydel Stadion on Wednesday.

* Paris St Germain’s Moise Kean scored twice and Kylian Mbappe grabbed two assists as they overcame a sluggish start to beat Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir 2-0 away on Wednesday, securing their first win in this season’s group stage.

* Barcelona named Carles Tusquets as their acting president on Wednesday, a day after Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned in order to avoid facing a vote of no confidence. Barca said in a statement that Tusquets, the chairman of the club’s economic commission, would lead the acting board of directors, comprising seven other people, until a new president and board is elected.

* Manchester United can safely host 23,500 fans at Old Trafford while maintaining social distancing to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Premier League club said on Wednesday.

* Beijing Guoan hit the woodwork twice but were unable to find a breakthrough as Bruno Genesio’s side were held to a 0-0 draw by champions Guangzhou Evergrande in the first leg of their Chinese Super League playoff semi-final on Wednesday. * This weekend’s Emilia Romagna Formula One Grand Prix at Imola will be held behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organisers said on Wednesday. Promoters had previously been given permission for more than 13,000 spectators a day but issued a statement on the circuit website.

* Slovenian Primoz Roglic pulled off a brilliant late attack to win stage eight of the Vuelta a Espana on Wednesday and eat into the overall lead of Richard Carapaz. Defending champion Roglic fought out a fascinating duel with Carapaz inside the final kilometre of the 164km mountain stage from Logrono to Alto de Moncalvillo and came out on top, crossing the line 13 seconds ahead of the Ecuadorean to collect his second stage win of this year’s race.

* Borussia Dortmund needed a 78th-minute penalty from Jadon Sancho and a stoppage-time goal from Erling Haaland to beat visitors Zenit St Petersburg 2-0 in their Champions League Group F match on Wednesday.

* Chelsea kickstarted their Champions League group campaign by coasting to a 4-0 win at Krasnodar on Wednesday thanks to goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and a late strike from Christian Pulisic.

* Next year’s Boston Marathon will not be held in April as it usually is and will be moved to the autumn due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organisers said on Wednesday. The race had been held annually since 1897 until it was cancelled this year for the first time, having first been postponed to September from the third Monday in April, or Patriots’ Day in Massachusetts, when it usually takes place.

* Saudi Arabia is set to host a Formula One grand prix for the first time next year with a street race in Jeddah featuring on a record 23-round draft calendar presented to teams, F1 sources said on Wednesday. A second US race in Miami appears on hold for at least another year, however.

* Italian Grand Prix winner Pierre Gasly will continue to race for AlphaTauri in 2021, the Red Bull-owned Formula One team confirmed on Wednesday. The announcement was expected and ended any lingering speculation that the 24-year-old Frenchman might return to the main Red Bull team alongside Dutch driver Max Verstappen.
