Bridge – Many research works on the use of herbs in medicine have succeeded, showing the great potential of the industry for healthcare.
The following are current research projects:
1. The research on developing technology and equipment to extract bioactive substances from medicinal mushrooms and use of technology to make functional food, conducted by Nguyen Duc Tien from the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology and his co-workers.
The research team used lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum), black forest mushroom (Lentinula edodes) and nam dau khi mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) as materials to extract bioactive substances for functional food processing. They found the technology to extract bioactive substances from the mushrooms with ultrasound waves.
They designed, manufactured, installed and operated a system of extracting equipment with ultrasound waves that serve the production of mushroom extract. They cooperated with two businesses to make products form lingzhi, black forest and nam dau khi mushroom extractions. Every 100 kilos of materials can produce 50 kilos of mushroom extra t.
2.The research on using the biomass root of hoang lien gai (Berberis julianae) as herb materials to make berberin, a medicine to treat stomachache and other common diseases, with Aeroponics technology, conducted by Lai Duc Luu from the Vietnam Agriculture Institute.
Many research works on the use of herbs in medicine have succeeded, showing the great potential of the industry for healthcare. |
The research was carried out on Berberis julianae to assess the capability of producing biomass root of the Aeroponics technology in comparison with the traditional land cultivation method.
Luu and his co-workers found that the biomass roots of hoang lien gai plant after one year of cultivation in aeroponics system was 3.4 times higher than the roots gained with traditional method.
With aeroponics technology, hoang lien gai plant grows best when the nutrient concentration is set at 1.300-1.600 μs/cm. Regarding the spray mode, it was better to spray for 10 seconds and stop for 15 minutes.
3.The research on technology to pretreat and preserve herbs after harvesting on an industrial scale. This was a key research project at the national level, implemented by Ta Phuong Thao from the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology
4. The research on creating hairy roots of tam that plant (Panax pseudoginseng), ngu gia bi chan chim (Schefflera heptaphylla) and trying biomass production with Bioreactor by Dang Thi Thanh Tam from the Hanoi Agriculture University.
The research team found the technological process to cultivate hairy roots with agrobacterium rhizogenes on ngu gia bi chan chim. This is considered a precondition for the production of the compounds in saponin group with bioreactors.
5. Vu Tuan Anh and his co-workers from the Military Medical Academy found the technique which creates Ngoc Linh ginseng biomass which can be used to make medicine, within 25-30 days, instead of having to grow the ginseng for 5-6 years.
