NDO – The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Ho Chi Minh City for August rose by a slight 0.06% compared to the previous month, according to the city’s Statistics Office. |

The city’s CPI in August decreased by 0.07% compared to December 2019 and increased by 2.43% compared to the same month in 2019. The average CPI in the first eight months of 2020 also rose by 3.24% over the average CPI in the first eight months of 2019. Eight out of 11 groups of goods and services saw price increases in August including restaurants and catering services, up 0.1%; beverages and tobacco, up 0.3%; garments, hats and footwear, up 0.07%; household appliances, up 0.2%; medicines and medical services, up 0.01%; traffic, up 0.11%; education, up 0.83%; and other commodity and services, up 0.33%. Meanwhile, three groups of goods and services posted price decreases in August, including housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials, down 0.31%; post and telecommunications, down 0.02%; and culture, entertainment and tourism services, down 0.06%. According to the city’s Statistics Office, the 0.11% increase in the traffic group is mainly attributed to the rise of petrol prices on July 28 and August 12. The group of apparels, hats and footwear saw little changes compared to the previous month due to low shopping demand. Meanwhile, the prices of housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials fell by 0.31% over the previous month due to lower prices of electricity, domestic water and house rental.
